This free Notion template turns podcast listening into a searchable knowledge base. It includes capture pages, a processing inbox, topic connections, and spaced review reminders. More advanced than a simple notes template. Best for people who listen to 5+ hours of podcasts weekly.
This template is a complete second brain system designed specifically for podcast learning. It's not just a notes template - it's a knowledge management system that helps you capture insights, connect them across episodes, and actually retain what you learn. If you want something simpler, check out our basic podcast notes template first. basic podcast notes template
The Problem With Podcast Notes
Most podcast notes are write-only -you capture something, maybe even process it, but then it disappears into a folder you never open again. Six months later, you can't remember any of it. The issue isn't the capture step but the lack of connection and review. Isolated notes don't stick. Ideas that connect to other ideas through a second brain approach create lasting knowledge by treating insights as nodes in a knowledge graph rather than items in a forgotten list.
The issue isn't capture - it's connection and review. Isolated notes don't stick. Ideas that connect to other ideas do. A second brain approach fixes this by treating podcast insights as nodes in a knowledge graph, not items in a list. What's in This Second Brain Template
This second brain system contains seven interconnected Notion databases designed to work together: an inbox for quick capture, an episode library for processed content, an insight vault for extracted ideas that connect across podcasts, topic and theme organization, a people directory for tracking experts and guests, project links for applying insights to your work, and a spaced repetition review queue to ensure you actually remember what you learned.
- Inbox - Quick capture zone for episodes as you listen
- Episode Library - Processed episodes with ratings, guests, and topics
- Insight Vault - Extracted ideas that connect across different podcasts
- Topics & Themes - Knowledge organized by theme, not source
- People Directory - Track guests, hosts, and experts
- Projects - Link podcast insights to your active work
- Review Queue - Spaced repetition schedule so you actually remember
The 5-Step Workflow
The template follows a five-step knowledge workflow: capture quick notes with timestamps while listening, process episodes by extracting one to three key insights afterward, connect those insights to topics and other episodes you've captured, review at spaced intervals to strengthen memory, and apply insights to projects and track their completion. The constraint of maximum three insights per episode is intentional -it forces prioritization so you focus on what truly matters.
- Capture - Quick notes while listening (timestamps, keywords)
- Process - Extract 1-3 key insights after the episode
- Connect - Link insights to topics, other episodes, projects
- Review - Revisit at spaced intervals (3, 7, 14, 30, 90 days)
- Apply - Turn insights into actions and track completion
The constraint of maximum 3 insights per episode is intentional. It forces prioritization. If everything is important, nothing is.
Why Connections Matter
The magic happens in the Insight Vault. When you extract an insight from an episode, you link it to relevant topics and to other insights you've captured before. Over time, you start seeing patterns across different podcasts.
Episode A mentions a productivity technique. Episode B, from a completely different podcast, references the same concept with a different angle. Your second brain connects them. Now you understand the idea from multiple perspectives.
Spaced Repetition for Podcast Learning
This template includes a review schedule based on spaced repetition research, the most effective technique for long-term retention. You review insights at expanding intervals -day 3, 7, 14, 30, and 90 -with each review strengthening the memory trace. Without systematic review, research shows you'll forget roughly 70% of new information within 24 hours. The template automatically tracks review dates so you know exactly which insights to revisit each day.
